After 120 Minutes of Overtime Play on Saturday Night San

Diego Boca FC Steps Up against SD Flash with 1-0 win

with a powerful 91’ Extra Time Goal

March 25, 2012 – San Diego, CA – San Diego Boca FC today beat all odds after playing and winning a 120-Minute Overtime match against the Phoenix Monsoon on Saturday night and then traveling for a local derby road match at the SD Flash grounds and winning 1-0 with a powerful 91’ extra time goal to seal the victory and continue its quest for a 2012 US Open Cup birth.

San Diego Boca Forward Alfredo Rodriguez finished a counter attack in extra time that started after a Flash breakdown by outpacing two Flash defenders on a through ball down the middle and slotted home the game winner into the left hand side of the net giving Boca the road victory. Players and coaches celebrated as the play was a classic counter that was executed perfectly by 19-year old midfielders Michael Perez and William Quintanilla. Quintanilla touched a pass in the midfield coming from Perez and found Rodriguez streaking through and delivered a silver platter pass to Rodriquez who calmly touched the ball to himself and then hit the ball past the Flash Goalkeeper which essentially ended the game and sealed the victory.

Head Coach Karim Ben Marzouk commented, “Today was another good win for our club as we played a good team in the Flash. We knew going in what type of futbol we needed to play to come out ahead. I give the boys credit for sticking in and fighting because the previous night they put out quite a bit of energy against Phoenix, winning in overtime. It obviously feels good to win especially when it’s a local derby but we know very well the Flash will be ready for the upcoming league matches. Right now we will enjoy the victory but its back to training on Monday.”

San Diego Boca FC now will face the winner of Fullerton Rangers and FC Hasental who play Tuesday night in Los Angeles. If San Diego Boca FC can win this next qualifying match, they will secure a birth in the US Open Cup.

San Diego Boca FC Wins 5-4 in Overtime

Thriller of US Open Cup Qualifier Match

 against Phoenix

Down 3-0, San Diego Boca FC Staged a memorable

comeback 5-4 win!

March 24, 2012 – San Diego, CA – San Diego Boca FC today gave its fans a taste of its new look and feel as it rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to score a 5-4 Overtime victory over the Phoenix Mansoon giving Boca its first win of the 2012 campaign.

Both teams started off with a little apprehension feeling one another out but Phoenix snapped out first with a flurry of goals to stun Boca at home taking a lead 3-0 into the second half. Finally after some water in its face, Boca began piecing things together with some changes in the lineup in the second half by new Head Coach Karim Ben Maruk. Boca scored its first goal on a penalty kick taken by Juan “Kichi” Perez followed by two goals by newly acquired Swiss forward Gabriel Buckson sending the match into extra time. Boca managed to take the lead 4-3 in OT but in the final minutes of the second overtime, Phoenix scored a header on a corner kick shortly thereafter which ultimately sent the game into penalty kicks.

Two fifteen minute half’s were played in this match being it was a US Open Cup qualifying match as both teams battled to the bitter end with neither team being able to score. With overtime complete, the both teams entered into the standard penalty kick shootout which turned out to be a thriller. Boca took the lead after Juan “Kichi” Perez scored Boca’s first shoot and Phoenix missed its first. Ultimately, Phoenix ran out of gas on its last shoot as Boca Keeper Steve Gonzalez made a save in Phoenix’s last attempt thus sealing the victory for Boca and its fans.

San Diego Boca FC Head Coach Karim Ben Mazuk commented, “We are happy to get the victory as Phoenix came in a played a hard match to their credit. I give the team credit for coming back from 3-0 in the hole, as that does not happen often in soccer and the fans got to see what this team is made of and it’s early so I am sure the team can only improve from here.”

San Diego Boca FC Announce US Open

 Cup Qualifier Match against NPSL

 Division Rival Phoenix Mansoon

Downtown’s Balboa Stadium is home to Boca’s Saturday

 3:00 PM Kickoff

March 20, 2012 – San Diego, CA – San Diego Boca FC (NPSL) announced today it upcoming US Open Cup Qualifier match against the Phoenix Mansoon (NPSL) this Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Historic Balboa Stadium in Downtown, San Diego. The match was initially set for March 17th but the storm that recently rumbled through San Diego caused a rescheduling of the match.

This key US Open Cup qualifying matchup will kick off the 2012 campaign for San Diego Boca FC as the club has made numerous changes in coaching and player personal during the offseason to prepare for the upcoming 2012 NPSL season.

The two teams have not met in league play in the past as the Phoenix Mansoon is a new NPSL entry in 2012 so the match will be a quick “get to know each other battle” as the loser of the match will be eliminated from entering the prestigious 2012 US Open Cup which is the longest standing US Soccer Tournament spanning back to 1914.

San Diego Boca FC’s President and General Manager Yan Skwara commented, “We are excited to get this season out the door as it’s been a busy off season. The US Open Cup Qualifier this weekend against Phoenix certainly get things moving quickly as we are basically looking at this match as a must win. This is going to be a tough season as is every season, but we feel we are prepared. We have worked hard during the off-season keeping the players that we wanted from last year’s squad along with identifying and adding the new talent that is necessary to make this a winning season.

“Having brought in new head Coach Karim Ben Mazouk from the departing Papo Santos was the beginning of the beginning. Coach Karim has been a pleasure to work with as he is a seasoned coach with over 30 years of coaching experience and he knows his game. Coach Karim carries a international passport originally born and raised in Morocco and settling here in San Diego many years back coaching at all levels starting including Youth soccer, High School soccer, Colligate soccer and Professional. Coach Karim knows exactly what he wants to do with this squad and we have worked well together to bring together what we feel are a special group of players together that are not only some of the best local players from San Diego but a international mix of talent that have made their way to our club in some shape or form. To compliment Coach Karim, we also have had the fortune to sign Assistant Coach Miguel Garcia who has done a fantastic job in playing his role as assistant coach. Coach Miguel’s professional career in goal with Necaxa and the San Diego Sockers back in the 80’s gives us a solid coaching staff entering the new season.

We are very pleased to re-sign Forward, Juan “Kichi” Perez, Defender, Jared Kikura and veteran Goalkeeper, Steve Gonzalez from last year’s squad as they are key players that are leaders both on and off the field. To compliment our returning players from last year, we wanted to make sure they were supported with the right mix of new talent in all positions.

Skwara continued, “We were very fortunate with several signings this off season starting with two players from Switzerland in 20 year old Mustafa Samatar (6’2-165) and 21 year old Gabriel Buckson (6’2-160). Both players arrived in San Diego several months ago to begin training with the squad and have made an immediate impact on the pitch. I think our fans will enjoy the goal scoring punch that Gabriel brings to the table as he has great speed and very good technique with the ball not to mention a great shot which every good forward possesses.

Mustafa on the other hand brings a work ethic into the midfield that is very solid and consistent and he knows how to break down plays and start a new attack.

Newly Signed Defenders Jamel Wallace (6’3 -180) and Jordon Grider (6’2 -175) bring strength and size in the back line along with local San Diego State graduate Defender Zach Luzczynski (6’1-172) Mexican Defender Bernardo Fernardo (6’2-179) and Brent Zuniga to create solid depth and strength in the back line. Our midfield includes third year BOCA midfielder Andreas “Apache” Canizales who is joined by newly signed playmaker Christian Maderos, Midfielder Chris Smith, and South African attacking midfielder Adam Meltz. Other key signing’s this year who are all also San Diego natives include Midfielders Juan Cardona, Defender, John Cardona, Midfielder Geovanni Sanchez, Midfielder, William Quintanilla, Midfielder Eder Gomez, Forward, Alfredo Rodriguez and Midfielder Michael Perez who are all battling for a starting position.

Skwara continued, “Our coaches and players are prepared and committed for the season as we have high expectations of ourselves. Playing an attractive brand of winning futbol that our Boca fans can enjoy is our objective this season and I like our chances.”
